PRESS ASSOCIATION -- Britons are increasingly taking advantage of money-off vouchers, special deals and freebies in the face of the continued economic difficulties, a new report has found.
A survey of 2,000 adults by Halifax Home Insurance found that nine out of 10 used vouchers or looked for deals, with almost half saying they looked for bargains more than they used to because money was tighter.
One in 10 of those questioned admitted they even became annoyed if their partner paid the full amount for goods or services, and a similar number are now prepared to haggle over prices.
Virtually everyone said they were not embarrassed to use discounts, with almost half sharing offers with friends.
Deals on meals in restaurants and takeaways were the main target for discounts, followed by holidays and flights.
Lindsay Forster, director of Halifax Home Insurance, said: "The recent downturn has made us more careful about what we spend and more savvy in searching for savings and getting a good deal matters.
"People now quite rightly expect a good deal and feel comfortable shopping and even bartering to make sure they get the best price whether for a meal, a flight or even insurance."
