A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a 20-year-old man was stabbed at the Notting Hill Carnival, Scotland Yard has said.
The victim's condition was described as serious but stable after he was found with stab wounds to the stomach and hand in Ladbroke Grove, West London on Monday evening, as the carnival came to a close.
The Metropolitan Police said four other men, aged between 20 and 21, had also been arrested over the incident.
A record number of officers, 6,500, were deployed to the carnival this year, in what was the first big test for London's police since the riots which swept through the city earlier this month.
The stabbing marred what was an otherwise largely peaceful event. Police made 214 arrests during the two-day street festival but said the carnival had been "very peaceful" despite a "small number of isolated incidents". The number of arrests was similar to the number made during both the 2009 and 2010 events.
This year's carnival was brought to a close at the earlier time of 19:00 amid fears for public safety in the wake of the riots. Scotland Yard said the decision to shut the street party early had a positive effect on how the day unfolded.
