Ed Miliband Is An 'Average' Leader According To Labour Supporters

The majority of Labour supporters think Ed Miliband has been an 'average' leader, according to a survey by the grassroots website Labourlist.

The popularity of the Labour Leader has waned since the phone hacking scandal, according to the results. Six weeks ago polls were showing support for Miliband rising sharply at the expense of David Cameron.

Support for Miliband is still stronger now than it was two months ago, with the majority of those polled thinking that his handling of the riots was ‘good’.

However the percentages also show that many thought his response was ‘average’, a disappointing result for an event which provoked strong feelings across the nation. Poor and Very Poor was the response selected by twenty per cent of people.

Peter Hain is the least popular MP in the shadow cabinet, closely followed by Caroline Flint and Shaun Woodward. Ed Balls, Yvette Cooper and Andy Burnham remain the most popular by a long way, as they've beeen for the past six months.

Mark Ferguson at Labourlist says: "What's perhaps most interesting about this survey, and those of previous months, is that Balls, Burnham and Cooper are far more popular than their shadow cabinet colleagues - that should make them untouchable if (or when) Ed Miliband chooses to make his first reshuffle."
