PICTURES: A Look Back At The Twin Towers

On 20 September 1962, the Port Authority announced the selection of Minoru Yamasaki as lead architect of the twin towers. Six years later construction began on the building which were both 110 stories tall.

The World Trade Centre dominated the Manhattan skyline for nearly 30 years until they were destroyed in the 9/11 suicide plane attacks in 2001.

The towers were completed in the early 1970s. For a short time they were the world's tallest buildings. We take a look back at New York's most iconic buildings.
