Mother And Baby Die In Arson Attack. Two Men Arrested

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- A woman and an infant boy have died following a suspected arson attack on their house.

Two men have been arrested by Kent Police.

Police were called to the terraced property in Chatham Hill, Chatham, Kent, at around 2.30am on Saturday following a report of a fire.

A woman believed to be in her 20s and an infant boy died in the fire.

Three people were also taken to hospital with injuries suffered in the blaze.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service were also called to the scene.

Earlier, a Kent Police spokeswoman confirmed that the fire is being treated as suspicious and officers are investigating the possibility of a link with a series of arson attacks in the area.

Chief Superintendent Neil Jerome said: "This is a tragic incident and we have launched a joint investigation with Kent Fire and Rescue Service to establish exactly what has happened.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have been in the area at around the time of the fire.

"If anyone was walking or driving in Chatham Hill in the early hours and has any information, no matter how insignificant it may appear, I urge them to contact Kent Police.

"All calls to Kent Police will be fully investigated."
