Lord Hanningfield, the former Tory peer jailed for fiddling his House of Lords expenses, has been arrested by Essex Police over allegations he put in fraudulent claims while leader of Essex County Council.
The former shadow business minister was released from jail on Monday, having served a quarter of his nine-month sentence.
Hanningfield was jailed in July having been found guilty of expenses fraud. During the eight-day trial, he told jurors that he had made claims for accommodation because "all the other peers were doing it".
