Police in Berlin are attempting to identify an English-speaking teenager who arrived in Berlin, saying that he had spent the last five years living in the woods with his father.
British consular staff are liaising with the police in Berlin to ascertain whether or not the fluent English-speaker is in fact British.
He said he couldn't remember where his family came from, but said that his name was Ray.
"We really have no idea where he comes from," Michael Maas, a spokesman for the Berlin police explained. The teenager, who is about 17, speaks English and a little German.
The boy told the police that he and his father went to live in the woods after his mother died. However, in August the boy's father died so the boy walked for two weeks before reaching Berlin, having buried his father in a shallow grave. He and his father did not have a home as such, but slept in a tent or abandoned huts.
The boy can remember little else about himself.
"He doesn't show any signs of abuse and he is in good shape physically and psychologically," the Berlin police spokesman said.
