Bill Bailey Lands 'Doctor Who' Role

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- Bill Bailey has landed a role in the Doctor Who Christmas special.

The comic and sci-fi buff, who is a big fan of the show, is filming the hour-long edition in Cardiff.

Bill has used a routine about the Doctor Who theme music in his live show and fans have started an online petition to have him cast as the 12th incarnation of the Time Lord.

Also appearing in the Christmas show are Claire Skinner from Outnumbered, The Fast Show's Arabella Weir and Alexander Armstrong.

The plot sees a widow, played by Claire, and her two children evacuated to a house in Dorset during the Second World War, where The Doctor (Matt Smith) is caretaker.
