'Scarface' Movie In The Works

Is Tony Montana Returning To The Big Screen?

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- A new Scarface movie is in the works, according to reports.

Two Scarface films have previously been made, most recently in 1983 with Al Pacino as Cuban gangster Tony Montana.

Deadline said that studio Universal Pictures has been meeting writers to script a new take on the film, which, it said, is not intended to be a remake or a sequel.

Scarface was first released in 1932, starring Paul Muni as an Italian taking over Chicago.

The updated version of the film will feature common elements of the first two movies, Deadline said, an outsider becoming part of the criminal establishment in pursuit of a warped version of the American dream.

The second film was directed by Brian De Palma, and also starred Michelle Pfeiffer and Steven Bauer.
