Man Accused Of Croydon Riot Fire Pleads Not Guilty

The man accused of starting the fire that destroyed the House of Reeves furniture store in Croydon in August has pleaded not guilty to two counts of arson.

Gordon Thompson, 33, appeared at Inner London Crown Court on Monday after being remanded earlier this year. He is also facing charges of violent disorder and burglary.

The attack, which took place during the summer riots, left the property a smouldering ruin, despite attempts by firefighters to put out the blaze.

The family-run furniture store, which was more than 150-years-old, has since been destroyed.

Thompson is due back in court on 28 October.
