Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 2012 Nominations (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Would Even Axl Rose And Slash Finally Bury The Hatchet For This?

Axl Rose may have to admit defeat and join the establishment.

Hard rock heroes Guns N' Roses and hip-hop pioneers Eric B. & Rakim are in the running to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Beastie Boys, Red Hot Chili Peppers and four-time nominee disco Queen Donna Summer have also made the long list of 15 nominated acts, from which five will be picked before an induction ceremony on 14 April in the Rock and Roll Museum in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Hall of Fame, which is currently celebrating its 25th year, first inducted music legends including Chuck Berry, James Brown, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, Buddy Holly and Elvis Presley in 1986.

The list causes controversy every year, when music fans voice their wrath over their particular favourites being overlooked.

This year, Bon Jovi have, once again, been denied a place. Last year, the band made the 'nominated for induction' list but didn't make the final cut. This time around, they didn't even get a mention.

"The 2012 Nominees embody the broad scope of what 'rock and roll' means," said Joel Peresman, President and CEO of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation.

"From vocal groups to hip hop, from singer-songwriters to hard rocking artists, this group represents the spirit of what we celebrate at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame."

It takes 25 years after the release of an act's first recording to become eligible for the Hall - this means the ever-youthful Jon Bon Jovi and his gang have, unbelievably, been qualified since 2009, but will have to wait another year if they wish to join the likes of the Rolling Stones and the Bee Gees.

For fans the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is also often the opportunity to wrangle bands into reunions.

The Police, Cream and Talking Heads all re-formed for previous ceremonies. In 2012 Guns N' Roses, if inducted, would be asked to perform, meaning Axl Rose and Slash would have finally to put their long-standing feud aside.

However, in 2008 Rose famously told Billboard magazine: "What's clear is that one of the two of us will die before a reunion and however sad, ugly or unfortunate anyone views it, it is how it is. Those decisions were made a long time ago and reiterated year after year by one man."
