John Denham, Labour Shadow Business Secretary, And John Healey, Shadow Health Secretary, To Step Down From Ed Miliband's Shadow Cabinet

John Denham And Healey Out Of Shadow Cabinet

Shadow business secretary John Denham and shadow health secretary John Healey are to step down down from Labour's shadow cabinet ahead of a reshuffle tomorrow.

"John was planning to stand down," a spokesperson for Denham explained to the Huffington Post. "This is nothing to do with his confidence in Ed Miliband. John will be campaigning vigorously to make Ed Miliband the next prime minister of this country."

"He wants to pass the baton down to the new generation", he added.

Denham will now become Ed Miliband's PPS, which a Labour source said was a sign of his loyalty to Miliband and their "mutual support". The move has prompted speculation Michael Dugher, Miliband's current PPS will be promoted.

John Healey, in his resignation letter, said he wanted to spent time with his family, writing:

"My family have accepted this for over a decade, and supported me throughout. But for now, I want to be able to give them more during the last couple of years we have left while our son is still with us at home. It is time for me to put them first."

A senior Labour source said Denham and Healey had quit a while ago, adding that the reshuffle tomorrow would be "pretty minor."

"A few of the 2010 intake will be promoted", they added.

The move comes amid speculation about a wider shadow cabinet reshuffle. A party source told the Huffington Post UK that shadow energy secretary Meg Hillier and shadow environment secretary Mary Creagh were "in trouble". However a separate source said rumours that former shadow chancellor Alan Johnson and Labour heavyweight Charlie Falconer would return were not to be believed.
