Phone Hacking Inquiry Live Blog

A former editor of the News of the World and the editor of the Guardian are among the first journalists to appear before the phone hacking inquiry.

The Leveson inquiry begins on Thursday with a session on "the competitive pressures on the press and the impact on journalism" and will hear from Phil Hall, the editor of the News of the World from September 1995 until May 2000.

Also presenting will be Richard Peppiatt, a former Daily Star reporter and media analyst Claire Enders.

The afternoon session on "the rights and responsibilities of the press" will hear from Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger, former Sun political editor Trevor Kavanagh and Brian Cathcart, professor of journalism at Kingston University.
