Jo Whiley: 'Ageism Excuse Is Lazy'

Jo Whiley has denied ageism forced her to leave Radio 1.

The 46-year-old switched to Radio 2 this year after 18 years on the pop station.

But she told The Sun: "It is an obvious thing for people to say. But the whole idea that you get to a certain age and then you can't be on Radio 1 is just not true.

"Look at people like Tim Westwood (54), Pete Tong (51) and Annie Nightingale (69). They are all still there.

"For people to throw ageism around is just lazy," she told the newspaper.

The mum of four said it was her choice to go. She said: "I wanted to move and I decided to.

"I've joined Radio 2 and I love it... I am so passionate about music and it definitely isn't like you get to a certain age and then switch off."

Jo, who is presenting a new music series on Sky TV, added: "I reckon I'll be buried with my headphones on!"
