Gizzi Erskine's Top 7 Kitchen Gadgets And Food Sites

Since when did a celebrity TV chef try and talk you out of buying another kitchen gadget? Pretty much since they came in the form of refreshing Londoner Gizzi Erskine.

She's got good news for thrifty Christmas gift buyers with cooks in mind. Most gadgets are a waste of money: "Those kitchen gadgets that just do one thing? Forget out them, they're a waste of money and space, and you're better off spending your money on a good set of knives.

"Those expensive benchtop mixers are a waste of money too. I get really good results from using a handheld mixer. Plus because you can move it around, you can control the mixture better," she tells Huffington Post.

Don't buy a quiche-maker, or a cupcake-maker or a waffle iron if you land Gizzi in the secret santa then.

Following Gizzi's kitchen gadget guidelines, you could save yourself a little cash. But the few gadgets she does rate are fairly expensive. Her favourite coffee machine is Delonghi, and rangecooker is Falcon ("I swear it's made me a better cook") and the knives she prefers are Haiku.

The gadget she fantasises about? It's one that will whip up some steaming soups for winter. "The Thermomix. It's a hot mixer that cooks on the bench top and they're absolutely amazing. I've used them in professional kitchens, but I haven't got one at home and I'd love one," she says.

Because she's always in the kitchen, Gizzi says she's too busy for apps of food blogs. But she has a few go-to sites that keep her inspired.

"I love David Leibovitz's site, he taught me how to make macaroons, and I also love Eat Like A Girl," she says.

Gizzi has two new TV shows in the works, along the lines of Saturday kitchen and she is hosting her own pop-up restaurant at the Ideal Home Show at Christmas, which runs from today, November 16 until the 20th.
