Adele, Taylor Swift Share Top Honours At American Music Awards 2011

Adele Storms American Music Awards

Adele shared top honours with country singer Taylor Swift at the American Music Awards last night, with both ladies each winning three trophies.

The British soul singer did not attend the ceremony as she is still recovering from throat surgery, but was named Favourite Adult Contemporary Artist, Favourite Pop/Rock Artist and Top Pop/Rock Album for the bestselling phenomenon 21.

Meanwhile, Swift, an industry veteran by now at the ripe age of 21, walked away with Favourite Female Artist, Favourite Album and Artist of the Year.

Swift, who was happily able to receive her awards without any stage interventions from the likes of Kanye West on this occasion, told the audience how she written the majority of her Album Speak Now at 4 in the morning in hotel rooms on tour... "and the fact that you would honour it in this way, you just have no idea what this means."

Katy Perry was recognised with a special achievement prize for becoming the first woman in the history of pop music to have five number one singles from one album.

Other female winners on the night were Nicki Minaj, Rihanna, Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez.
