WATCH: Human-Powered Ferris Wheels In India

In a world without electricity, how do you go about powering a ferris wheel? At a carnival in New Delhi, India, you simply get on board and do it yourself, producing these astonishing images of a human-powered ferris wheel.

A quick YouTube search will tell you that the idea of pedal-powered ferris wheels isn't exactly a new idea - some videos of Indian carnivals using the techique were uploaded as long ago as 2006 - but images as clear and well composed as these are a rare sight.

New Delhi itself is a city hampered continiously by blackouts and power cuts, so to avoid disappointing the legions of kids who come to ride their rusty contraption (see below), the carnival workers - sensibly or not - thought they'd take matters into their own hands.

Of course, it's all fun and games until someone falls off, but until then, in a land without rigorous health and safety laws, it looks like several tonnes of fun.
