Christmas-Crazy Homeowner Spends £20,00 On 'Winter Wonderland'

Hundreds of visitors a day are flocking to a sleepy cul-de-sac in Somerset to see one man's suburban winter wonderland, showcasing 400 metres of fake snow, a 20ft Christmas tree, an illuminated waterfall and glowing polar bears.

Planning for Paul Toole's yuletide extravaganza began in March.

By 24 October he was finally ready to set about constructing his the Christmas scene of his dreams.

The moment of truth, after months of planning, came on Thursday when 50,000 fairy lights sprang into life, flashing in time perfectly to a sequence of 11 festive tunes.

Father Christmas appears to conduct the music from prime position at the front of the garden spectacle.

An excited Toole enthused about his dazzling display to the Daily Mail:

"I think about it and plan it every single day of the year. I am slightly wacky about Christmas and I am constantly trying to think of ways I can make our display the biggest and best."

Toole, who lives alone and hosts karaoke nights for a living, was joined by John Challis, who played Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, for the lovely jubbly grand unveiling.

Donations will be going to the Make A Wish Foundation.
