Lib Dem MP Andrew George suffered something of an embarrassment as he was asked to leave a constituent's farm, cutting short a photo opportunity with children from four schools in the area.
According to This Is Cornwall George was joining the schoolchildren to bury a time capsule on the farm near Traboe, in Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula, last Thursday, when George was ordered off the property by the owner, who claimed that her husband would not want him there.
George played down the incident, which prevented him from being in pictures with the children as they buried the time capsule containing pieces of work, ranging from pictures to poetry, by 200 pupils from nearby schools.
Speaking after his expulsion, George stated that he would not let the event ruin his day, stating that: "Whether I'm invited to join their photo of the event or not is inconsequential to me. The odd and inexplicable overruling of the head's request to me to join the children in their photo raised a few eyebrows and prompted a flurry of (unnecessary) apologies."
On whether this could be a sign of discontent among constituents, George brushed off the notion, saying: "In politics you very occasionally meet people who misjudge a situation or who allow things to get out of proportion. I don't hold it against them and remind everyone that if they have a problem my door is always open and I'd be happy to discuss with them anything that's troubling them."
