UK Braced For More Storms After 165MPH Gales In Scotland

UK Braced For More Gales - And This Time They're Coming South

Britain faces another week of strong winds and possible gales after storms in Scotland last week saw gusts of up to 165mph.

Two brewing storms in the Atlantic are threatening to batter parts of the UK from Monday evening, leading the Met Office to issue warnings for the south and west.

A depression lying just off the Atlantic could lead to gusts of up to 70mph in England and Wales on Monday night, falling by Tuesday and Wednesday.

Heavy rain is also expected, the Met office said.

Severe gales are being forecast for later in the week across southern Britain and Northern Ireland.

Aisling Creevey, a forecaster with Meteogroup, told the Press Association:

"It is very difficult to know at this stage where exactly the storms are going to be.

"There's a system coming through on Tuesday and again on Thursday - it looks as if they will be two stormy days. We could see gusts of 100mph in some places - but there is very little confidence about exactly where."

The storms in Scotland last week disrupted travel networks and left up to 50,000 without power for several days.
