A teenager who was part of a gang that attacked a pensioner with a concrete block joked on Facebook about avoiding a prison sentence.
Ryan Girdlestone, 18, was part of a large group of people who threw eggs at Bernard O'Donnell's house in Baguley, near Manchester, on October 31.
When the pensioner went outside to clean up the mess the gang reappeared and attacked the man's car. Soon after another member of the gang - but not Girdlestone - threw a heavy concrete slab and broke O'Donnell's leg.
In court, Girdlestone said he was sorry after Deputy District Judge Rod Ross said he was "appalled" by the incident.
He received a 6am-6pm curfew and was also handed a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting O'Donnell.
Minutes after receiving the sentence, however, he took to Facebook to declare his apparent joy over avoiding prison.
"Jus got out off court wiv a 4 mouths tag hahahha dicks!!!," Girdlestone said. "Neally went prison thou!" he added later.
Victim O'Donnell told the Manchester Evening News that he had been upset when learning of Girdlestone's Facebook outburst.
"If the punishments being handed down by the courts are not effective then the police are obviously wasting their time," he told the MEN.
"This has really knocked the stuffing out of me. I fear for myself and all my neighbours - but I will not be driven out of my home."
Local Labour MP Paul Goggins, quoted by the Daily Mirror, said: "Isn't that sheer contempt of the court and shouldn't he be held to account?"
According to the Mirror, Girdlestone later apologised for his comments saying that he was simply "happy and relieved" not to be going to prison.
