The average Brit will eat around 2,453 takeaways in their adult lifetime, according to a new study.
The Benenden Healthcare Society estimated an average British adult will spend £17,250 on takeaways after its poll found people said they ate an average of 46 takeaway dishes each year.
In an average adult lifespan of 62.5 years - calculated as being between the ages of 18 and 80.5 - researchers estimated a person will eat 188 kebabs, 322 Chinese dishes and 368 pizzas. An average Brit will also eat 375 burgers, 312 portions of fish and chips and 92 hot dogs.
More than a quarter of people (28%) said they had one takeaway a fortnight and another one in four (26%) had one a week. Almost one in 10 (9%) said they had two takeaways a week and one in 20 (6%) said they had three.
"Can't be bothered to cook" (36%) was the most popular reason for people to choose a takeaway.
Lawrence Christensen, Benenden Healthcare's head of communication, said: "There's a curious obsession with takeaways in the UK and despite a precarious economic situation, they are as popular as always.
"Brits should be carefully considering their choices and asking whether a takeaway is really necessary. Not only is it a hit on the pocket, but it could be a fast track to a range of health issues."
A quarter of the 2,000 respondents said they did not think about the potential health implications of eating takeaways.
