Strictly Come Dancing Final: The 5 Best Ballroom Moments Of 2011

STRICTLY FINAL: The 5 Best Ballroom Moments Of 2011

1. Entertainment From The Astrologer

Who'd have thought Russell Grant would become the highlight of Strictly 2011? Not only did the astrologer get to return to his favoured spot in the limelight, claiming: "I'm back doing what I really love to do," but viewers were also given the most gloriously camp contestant the ballroom's ever seen. Whether cuddling a teddy bear, riding a bucking bronco, swishing in white satin after emerging from a giant pink seashell, or being shot out of a glitter cannon, Grant made the series with his darling behaviour.

2. A Diva On The Dancefloor

Nancy Dell'Olio left her Latin legs at home and brought her high opinion of herself with her instead. Calling herself the "Italian siren", Dell'Olio set the tone of what was to come from her corner with a shambolic performance in the opening weekend. She claimed her dress had been sabotaged and went on to score a lowly 12 points out of 40 as she tripped over her feather boa on the dancefloor. Nobody said it was going to be easy.

3. Winning At Wembley

Taking to the dancefloor in front of a 6,000-strong crowd takes some guts, but Strictly stormed Wembley, kicking off with a stunning dance routine set to a grandiose Queen musical montage. Harry Judd’s open shirt elicited screams from the audience, while Chelsee Healey and Pasha spiced up the night with a samba set to the Spice Girls' tune.

4. Not Such An Ugly Duckling

Holly Valance's beautiful American Smooth to Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake saw her channel ballet film Black Swan. Judge Len Goodman asked for an instant replay, and Alesha Dixon called it the dance of the night. Thanks to her partner Artem Chigvintsev's cleverly choreographed routine it become her dance of the series.

5. Thrustathon

Footballer Robbie Savage threw himself into all his dances, embracing the music and his costumes. But when it came to choreography he preferred pelvic thrusts instead of actual dance moves. His cape-swirling, hip-thrusting and crotch-grabbing become a bit too much for viewers, after he jumped onto the judges' desk and performed Michael Jackson's Bad dance move in their faces. The BBC received over 267 complaints because of his raunchy paso doble, with some angry viewers claiming his dance moves were "inappropriate".
