Motorists Told To Avoid Parts Of M25

Motorists have being urged to avoid parts of the M25 after a fatal crash which has been referred to the police complaints watchdog.

The motorway was closed clockwise between junctions 10 and 11 after a silver BMW collided with the back of an articulated lorry, Surrey Police said.

The driver of the BMW was pronounced dead at the scene and has yet to be formally identified, The lorry driver was uninjured.

The incident, which occurred at 11.55pm near junction 11 at Chertsey on Monday, was referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Surrey Police did not reveal why the matter had been referred.

The spokeswoman said: "The M25 clockwise will remain closed for several hours while emergency services deal with incident.

"Motorists are asked to avoid travelling in the area until the carriageway can be be reopened.

"This will particularly affect motorists travelling to Gatwick and Heathrow airports."
