A freight train has been derailed from its tracks after a cyclone in Australia’s Northern Terrority.

Flash floods caused by tropical storm Cyclone Grant have swept away part of the bridge, causing fears that the 33 carriage iron-ore freight train could have spilt its chemical contents into the water.

The two drivers were rescued and airlifted to hospital in Katherine, south of Darwin. The "Top-End" of the region is cut off.

Heavy rain in the area has led to swathes of the country being cut off from supplies. of the Stuart Highway are underwater and supermarket supplies in the region are said to be low.

The flood waters are subsiding but it will be impossible to see the extent of the damage until flood waters subside. Locals have been warned of crocodiles in the rising waters. Katherine is also on flood alert.
