A seven-year-old girl who was attacked by a kangaroo in Australia has told how she thought the animal was going to kill her.
Makayla McEvoy suffered cuts and bruises after the kangaroo charged at her, pinned her to the ground and repeatedly kicked her.
The schoolgirl told Sky News: “I thought I was going to die. All I could see was grey, grey, grey.”
Makayla, who was attacked at Wyangala Dam, New South Wales, was resecued by her step-father Mitch McGovern.
He said: “As I jumped over the top of Makayla to get rid of the kangaroo, all I could see was she was laying, sort of, face down on the ground with her shirt all ripped, and her back was cut.
“There was no noise, I thought the worst.”
Makayla’s mother, Emma McGovern, described the attack: “It just jumped on her back and knocked her to the ground and started – it was just jumping up and jumping up on top of her and scratching her.
“Honestly, I thought she was dead. She didn’t make any noise. She didn’t scream for help.”
Despite her traumatic experience, Makayla has insisted she still loves animals and wants to be a vet when she is older.
