Surfer Survives Shark Attack On North Avoca Beach, Australia (VIDEO)

WATCH: Surfer Survives Shark Attack After Paddling To Shore Covered In Blood

A surfer managed to paddle back to shore covered in blood after a shark attack at North Avoca Beach, New South Wales, Australia.

The 28-year-old surfer told a witness to the attack that the shark "climbed up onto his board and took a chunk out of his arm."

The 6ft long shark then tried to drag the man's arm underneath the board, but the surfer managed to break free by hitting the shark with his free appendage.

He was left with a two inch wound in his arm and is now recovering in a hospital in New South Wales. His condition is said to be "satisfactory."

Jack Gencher, who was on the beach at the time said:

"[I saw] a woman screaming out to another surfer to get out of the water, that there's a shark. I had not realised yet that a shark had actually bitten a surfer.

"I see two to three people surrounding a man on the sand, and then I come closer and I see there's blood all over the man's surfboard and on the sand."

Dusk is feeding time for sharks, and surfers and swimmers are warned to take care when in the sea at this time of day.
