Katy Perry is to pour her heart into her songwriting following her split from husband Russell Brand.
The couple announced the breakdown of their marriage last week after funnyman Russell, 36, cited "irreconcilable differences" for the split in divorce documents filed in Los Angeles last Friday.
27-year-old California Girl singer Katy has been scribbling her heartbreak down on paper as she goes through the various emotions associated with the split.
"She has always said that writing is almost a form of therapy for her and she would often be found in her dressing room on tour writing in her diary."
Pink-haired Katy spent Christmas apart from Russell as he travelled to the UK for the festive period whilst Katy relaxed on the beach in Hawaii. The star is said to have chosen the tropical destination as the perfect place to focus on her feelings.
The source said: "She spent a lot of time in Hawaii over Christmas writing lyrics to two of her latest tracks."
Russell might not be able to express his feelings quite so kindly in his sarcastic stand-up comedy but it a statement last week he revealed he is not bitter about the split.
He said: "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
