George Clooney's Top Tip For Friendship - Don't Cast Your Mates In Films

George's Top Tip...

George Clooney has learned a valuable lesson about maintaining Hollywood friendships - never cast a pal in a film you are directing.

The actor-turned-moviemaker insists it is "almost always" a bad idea to ask a mate to appear in your film because you might have to cut them out.

The Ides of March director tells the Los Angeles Times, "Almost inevitably you've sort of changed your judgment to say, 'Well, they could do this,' and sort of worked them into something that they're not right for.

"You end up probably cutting them out, which is going to give you another terrible conversation you're going to have later."

Clooney is famously pally with Brad Pitt and Matt Damon, neither of whom have appeared in any of his directing efforts.

Clooney is currently in the running for an Oscar nod for his turn in The Descendants, where he plays a man cuckolded by his wife, something he only discovers when she falls into a coma. Oscar nominations will be announced at lunchtime today.
