George Clooney is having a VERY good awards season.
Still celebrating his Golden Globe win as Best Actor in a Drama for his role in The Descendants (which also won Best Drama at the Globes), he can bask with some fresh love from the Academy in different categories.
He has received a nod for Best Actor in the Oscar nominations - announced today in Los Angeles. For this category, he's up against his great buddy Brad Pitt for Moneyball, Demian Bichir for A Better Life, Jean Dujardin for The Artist (who won Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical at the Globes), and Brit favourite Gary Oldman for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
But Clooney can also bask in recognition for his work behind the camera, with his script for political thriller The Ides of March nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay (with co-writer Grant Heslov and Beau Willimon).
Clooney is already the recipient of an Oscar for acting - Best Supporting Actor for Syriana in 2005. And he has been nominated for directing too, for Good Night and Good Luck, so he's joined the elite club for Hollywood diverse talents - those who've received writing, acting directing nominations, and whose members include Warren Beatty, Charlie Chaplin, Roberto Benigni and Orson Welles.
The Descendants is also nominated for Best Film, up against Moneyball, The Artist, The Tree of Life, War Horse, Hugo, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, The Help and Midnight In Paris.
It could be a big night for George Clooney on 26th February.
