Amy Winehouse Coroner Resigns, After Qualifications Questioned

Amy Winehouse's Coroner Resigns

Amy Winehouse's coroner Suzanne Greenaway has resigned, after questions were raised over her qualifications for the job, claim reports. The family are said to be seeking legal advice over the verdict of death, which said the singer died after drinking too much alcohol .

In a statement, the Winehouse family said it was "taking advice on the implications of this and will decide if any further discussion with the authorities is needed."

It is down to the family to decide whether or not they will take their claim to the office for judicial complaints, as the inquest could have been illegal. Greenaway presided on around 30 inquests, which could all be declared invalid if they are challenged in the High Court.

Although Greenaway had been qualified as a nurse in her native Australian, strict coroner's rules in the UK means she should have been "qualified medical practitioner" for five years. She had also been a solicitor in the Law Society for five years, but had only been a member for two-and-a-half.
