Charlie Cavey, Bin Busker, Targeted By Cambridge University Students In Bleach Attack

Cambridge Student Faces Action Over Harassing Bin Busker

Cambridge University is taking action against a student who harassed and thew a stink bomb at a street busker.

Charlie Cavey, a performer who plays a guitar from a litter bin outside the college, has been the victim of abuse by students from Corpus Christi college.

On one occasion, the bin was attacked with bleach, student paper Varsity reported.

The head porter of the college warned the students tough action would be taken if they continued on their harassment campaign against Cavey, also known as "Bin Man busker".

Cavey told local paper Cambridge News the students accused him of begging.

"I was performing when this group of students came up to me and said I was annoying them.

"About an hour and a half later I went back to my bin and someone had poured a load of bleach into it."

"A student has been identified for throwing a stink bomb into the bin and a disciplinary procedure is underway," a spokesperson for Cambridge University told Huffington Post UK.

Emma Thorton, who heads up the tourism and city centre management team, told us although buskers are not licensable in Cambridge, there is a code of conduct street performers are asked to adhere to.

"We ask buskers not to be in any one location for more than a certain amount of time. We have very few problems with buskers as the majority of them respect our requests. Those who come to Cambridge regularly don't want to cause a nuisance."

Thorton added the council had not received any complaints about the busker in question.
