Man Charged With Southport Murders Found Hanged In Cell

Barry Morrow, 51, who was due to face trial at Liverpool Crown Court in May over the murders of his landlady Angela Holgate and her 75-year-old mother Alice Huyton, has been found hanged in his prison cell, the prison service said today.

A prison service spokeswoman said: "HMP Manchester prisoner Barry Morrow was found hanging in his cell at 2.18pm on Thursday 9 February.

"Staff attempted resuscitation and paramedics attended but he was pronounced dead at 2.46pm.

"As with all deaths in custody, the prisons and probation ombudsman will conduct an investigation."

Morrow was charged by Merseyside Police on 10 December.

The bodies of Holgate, 54, and her mother were found at Holgate's home near Southport on 3 December. Both had been strangled.
