Aidan Burley's 'Nazi Stag Party' Faces Formal Investigation By French Prosecutors

France To Probe 'Nazi Stag Party' Attended By Tory MP

French prosecutors intend to launch a formal investigation into a Nazi-themed stag party attended by Tory MP Aidan Burley, it has been reported.

The MP for Cannock Chase was fired from his role as a parliamentary private secretary (PPS) to Transport Secretary Justine Greening after the Daily Mail photographed him with friends at the French Ski resort of Val Thorens, where the party took place, last year.

One member of the stag party was wearing a replica SS officer's uniform while another guest reportedly toasted the "ideology and thought processes" of Adolf Hitler.

Following the incident he issued an "unreserved, wholehearted and fulsome apology".

Local French prosecutor Patrick Quincy told the AFP news agency on Wednesday that authorities were now going ahead with a full official investigation.

It will focus on allegations that some of the party defended war crimes or crimes against humanity, as well as promoted racial hatred, and wore the uniform of an organisation that carried out crimes against humanity and making racist insults.

Following the reports of a formal investigation, Labour MP Ian Austin called for him to be kicked out of the Conservative Party.

"Calling for PM to remove whip from Burley as French authorities investigate Nazi-themed stag party," he said on Twitter.
