The nine-year-old schoolboy responsible for leaving his classmate fighting for her life after she was shot in the stomach has appeared in court to face charges.
Amina Kocer-Bowman, 8, was airlifted to hospital on Thursday after a gun hidden in her classmate's rucksack discharged during a lesson at Armin Jahr school.
The schoolboy was arrested shortly after the incident and is facing charges for assault, unlawful possession of a gun and bringing a weapon to school.
During his preliminary hearing, the boy, accompanied by his father and uncle and wearing orange jumpsuit, wept as the charges were read out, the Associated Press reported.
After the hearing, the boy's father, who media reports have named as Jason Cochran, said: "I just want everyone to know my kid made a mistake. It was a terrible mistake."
His bail has been set at $50,000 and he is currently being held at Kitsap County juvenile detention centre.
