Dusting Off Her Dancing Shoes

Katherine Jenkins has signed up to compete in the new series of US show Dancing With The Stars.

The newly-single Welsh opera singer will join soul star Gladys Knight, singer-songwriter Gavin DeGraw and tennis player Martina Navratilova in the celebrity dancing contest when it returns to screens next month.

Other competitors vying for the mirrorball trophy include Melrose Place actor Jack Wagner, The View co-host Sherri Shepherd, former Little House On The Prairie child actress Melissa Gilbert and Disney Channel star Roshon Fegan.

Extra presenter Maria Menounos, Family Matters actor Jaleel White, telenovela star William Levy and National Football League player Donald Driver complete the line-up for the ABC show.

The contestants will dance their first routines with their professional partners on March 19 and March 26, with the first couple eliminated on March 27.

Katherine, 31, and former Blue Peter presenter fiance Gethin Jones, 34, announced they were ending their relationship in late December.

The singer, who began dating the TV star in late 2007, said they were both "beyond broken-hearted" at the decision.

Last season, soldier-turned-actor JR Martinez and partner Karina Smirnoff took home the Dancing With The Stars trophy, with reality TV star Rob Kardashian and partner Cheryl Burke coming in second place in front of former talk show host Ricki Lake and dancer Derek Hough.

Other previous champions include Dirty Dancing actress Jennifer Grey, Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger and gymnast Shawn Johnson.
