Two Due In Court Charged With Trying To Kill Manchester Student

Two men and a woman will appear in court on Monday charged with the attempted murder of a student found seriously injured in a water-filled ditch.

Daniel Whiteley, 19, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was discovered at the bottom of an embankment in Platt

Fields park in Fallowfield, Greater Manchester, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The first-year English student at the University of Manchester received multiple injuries to his head and body, and is in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "Three people have been charged after a student was attacked in Platt Fields Park.

"Michael Brownlie, 26, of Erneley Close, Longsight, Nicholas Lindsay, 21, of Aked Close, Longsight, and Katie Mongan, 18, of Mount Road, Longsight, are charged with attempted murder and are due before Manchester City Magistrates Court on Monday."
