Victoria Beckham has finally explained the real reason for her infamous pout - it's to protect her when she's posing on the red carpet.
The former Spice Girl has been slammed for years for refusing to show off her pearly whites in front photographers, but hit back by insisting she hates her smile.
Now she reveals she's well aware her stern stare makes her look daft, but she continues to strike a pose as a defence mechanism in the glare of the camera flash.
Speaking to Madame magazine, Posh Spice said: "XXL sunglasses and a slightly sulky pout are my ways of protecting myself. All the fuss makes me feel ill at ease. I realise that makes me look pretty silly but so what?"
Victoria's gloomy looks became a talking point again earlier this month when she failed to even raise a smile at New York Fashion Week - despite her latest catwalk creations being praised by the style press.
The star looked moody and exhausted as she posed for snaps, but blamed her dour expression on being a busy working mum-of-four.
"I'm up with the baby as all mums are and I wouldn't have it any other way. There's not a team of people doing it for me. And then people want to say I look c**p. Well, I'm a working mum, so give me a break."
