Massive Solar Storm Lights Up Sky With Aurora Borealis (PHOTOS) (VIDEO)

WATCH: Massive Solar Storm Paints Sky With Dramatic Northern Lights

The largest solar storm for five years may have passed by without destroying the national grid, but that doesn't mean it didn't leave a trace.

All over the world, including in the UK, the wave of particles created brilliant light shows as they interacted with the atmosphere.

In Norway amateur videographers captured the lights as they danced in the sky and in Yellowknife, in the North West Territories of Canada, truckers returning from the diamond mines 330km northeast took photos of the nighttime spectacle as they cruised down the ice road on Prosperous Lake.

Nasa said that the storm was actually relatively minor - a G1 on a scale of G1 to G5 for most of Thursday and Friday - but the sun won't hit the peak of its 11-year cycle until 2013-14, so there could be more to come.
