The Pogues Ask Michael McIntyre Asked To Drop Joke About 'Fairytale Of New York'

How Has Michael McIntyre Upset The Pogues?

Michael McIntyre has been banned by Irish rockers The Pogues from mocking their hit song Fairytale of New York in his stand-up routine.

The band's tune hits the airwaves every festive season, and McIntyre incorporated the track into his Christmas Comedy Roadshow gigs last year, performing an impersonation of frontman Shane MacGowan's famously slurred vocals.

But The Pogues' representatives failed to see the funny side, and McIntyre received a phone call ordering him to drop the routine.

The funnyman tells The Sun, "Last year I was here trying out material before my Christmas show where I did a joke about that Pogues song. After that show I got a call from their people and I've been banned from doing that joke."
