The 10 millionth .uk website domain has been sold. Swarve magazine is the proud owner of the new domain, registered to SN Technologies.
Steven John Northam, founder of SN Technologies Ltd, a Hampshire-based investment firm, registered the ten millionth domain for a new venture the company is funding.
Northam said: ".uk domains have served us well through a wide range of entrepreneurial investments. All the businesses we've backed use .uk domains to establish a clear, trusted, British identity. We expect our latest venture will follow the trend and we're proud to hold the 10 millionth registration."
More than two million new .uk registrations were lodged in 2011 and also in 2010. .uk the world's second largest country code top level domain (ccTLD) is the second largest outside of .com
Hugo Dalrymple-Smith, Head of Sedo UK 'the world's largest domain marketplace' said: "Although .com remains the global defacto, .uk domains are recognised by consumers as sites that they can trust. A solid domain name is key for businesses.
For SMEs in particular a .uk domain is attractive because it often gives them more choice to pick a company name that they feel will enable them to be competitive in their chosen industry. In the secondary market year on year we have seen an upward trend for demand in .uk websites, both for personal and business use, and we only see that continuing."
