After questioning George Osborne on the pertinent issues of the day (when he last bought a pasty) Labour MP John Mann stepped up his campaign to keep the Conservative party in touch with the common man.
On Wednesday Mann sent out an open invite to David Cameron and his Chancellor to spend two nights with him in a static caravan before the VAT hike kicks on after the Easter holiday.
Mann said: “I want George Osborne and David Cameron to experience what a holiday in a static caravan is like before they implement the VAT hike on them.”
Aside from pasties, static and touring caravans over seven metres will also be hit by VAT changes announced in last week's budget.
“We have already seen the Chancellor admitting that he can’t remember the last time he bought a Greggs pasty and now I am simply offering him and Cameron the opportunity to experience another normal aspect of British life before it's hit by their VAT bombshell," Mann said,
Downing Street and the Treasury have yet to comment on whether Cameron and Osborne would take up the Labour MP on his kind invitation.
Mann will be pleased to know, however, that the prime minister earlier outed himself as a pasty fan, telling a press conference: "I am a pasty eater myself, I go to Cornwall on holiday, I love a hot pasty.
"I think the last one I bought was from the West Cornwall Pasty Company. I seem to remember I was in Leeds station at the time and the choice was whether to have one of their small ones or large ones, and I have a feeling I opted for the large one and very good it was too."
Mann later told PoliticsHome that he would be providing "warm Hot Cross Buns" for the prime minister and chancellor.
He also said he would supply: "A cheap case of supermarket beer" and that "of course no holiday would be complete without the buckets and spades".
