Police have begun an investigation after a candidate in Scotland's local elections turned out to be a shop dummy.
The term "dummy candidate" is usually reserved for politicians who enter a race with the intention of winning in order to damage the chances of a rival.
But independent Helena Torry brought a whole knew meaning to the phrase after she was placed on the ballot paper in the Airyhall, Broomhill and Garthdee constituency for this May's elections to Aberdeen City Council.
However as the Aberdeen Evening Express reported on Saturday Torry was disqualified from standing after it was discovered she was in fact, a mannequin.
Renee Slater, who put forward Torry in the elections, denied she had done anything wrong.
"I've never claimed that Helena was a person," she told the Scottish Sun. "There's a long history of lampooning in British elections. There's no reason for them to stop her from running as a candidate."
Renee, 64 was a Labour councillor in the Aberdeen District until 1985 until being convicted of defrauding the council.
