Richard Keys And Andy Gray To Jeff Stelling And Charlie Nicholas: Football's Worst Banter (VIDEO)

Football's Worst Banter (VIDEO)

Banter is defined as "the playful and friendly exchange of teasing remarks". In football however it has fast become a cringe-inducing pastime of players, presenters and pundits that any charm wore off long ago.

This evening a Gabby Logan-led programme will air focusing on sexism in football. In light of Andy Gray and Richard Keys' departures from Sky Sports last year after a string of sexist remarks about lineswoman Sian Massey, Charlotte Jackson and one of Jamie Redknapp's former girlfriends, the topic has been thrust back into the limelight.

Keys, in an interview with radio station talkSPORT after his resignation, admitted he rang Massey to apologise and had "some banter" with her. That grave he had dug himself into had gotten deeper.

So here is a list of some of football's worst examples of banter, arguably starting with its birth at Wembley...

You know it is going to be a tiresome haul when Stan Boardman inexplicably gets on board the team bus...

This gem only materialised after Masseygate last year, as Sky's banterrific duo can't contain their laughter at some comical women's football.

The home of banter can often be found at talkSPORT Towers, but they take it outside too. Even George Galloway gets in on the act.

Posing for Nuts means Charlotte Jackson isn't exactly the Kate Adie of journalism she was portrayed as when this footage emerged, but the poor girl's awkwardness is infectious.

Richard Keys

"He's completed his hat-trick! Via a back pass from Jamie Redknapp."

Jeff Stelling and Charlie Nicholas

It's a good thing Nicholas wasn't a cricketer. In sledging, he would have been found stumped.

Gary Lineker, 2012

Is it Martin Jol or Christian Bale's Batman? Either way, isn't it about time Match of the Day's back-slapping club had an overhaul?
