Three people have died and two others have been seriously injured in a collision between two vehicles on a country road

Humberside Police said they were called to the A614, close to the village of East Cowick, near Goole, East Yorkshire, at about 1.35pm today.

A spokesman confirmed the accident had resulted in three deaths and two other serious injuries but could give few other details.

The spokesman said: "Humberside Police were called at 1.35pm today reporting a serious two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A614 at East Cowick, Goole.

"Police, ambulance, air ambulance and fire brigade were in attendance.

"Unfortunately, three people have died in the collision and two have been taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries."

He said it was unlikely any further details about the collision or those involved would be released tonight.

The spokesman said the road will be closed until at least 9pm tonight and advised motorists to avoid the area.

The Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirmed two patients had been airlifted by helicopter from the scene to Leeds General Infirmary.

But a spokeswoman said she could not confirm the nature or seriousness of their injuries.

She said the service was called at 1.33pm today and responded with two air ambulances, three land ambulances and two rapid response vehicles.

She said a doctor and a team leader were sent to the scene along with paramedics and a full hazardous area response team was also mobilised.
