London At Night: The Majestic M25 As Seen From Space

If you find it hard to love London as much as you could, or even if you're a died-in-the-wool Londonist, here's an amazing shot to warm the cockles.

Nasa has shot the M25 from space, in one of the most romantic shots of London and surrounds ever seen.

You may have had a tough day on the tube, or crawling through traffic on the south circular, but all the tension of the reality of London life disappears from this height.

Taken in February 2003, the shot points to the north east. So north is toward the top and slightly left in this view.

The M25 which circles Greater London is easy to see. In the south, Gatwick airport can be made out as a satellite of light. Heathrow airport can also be seen to the left of the shot.

Two dark spots that stand out in the central glow are Hyde Park and Regents Park, two spots where the lack of night lights keep the light pollution to a minimum.

Tell us what you think about this shot, and life in London, in comments.
