Teenage Girl Dies After Being Hit By A Car In Merseyside

A teenage girl has died after being struck by a car in the early hours of Sunday morning, police said.

The 17-year-old, who has not been named, was hit by a Ford Focus as it travelled along the Formby bypass, in Merseyside, at around 2.30am.

Ambulance crews attended the scene and the youngster was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Merseyside Police said the driver of the Focus remained at the scene and is helping officers with their enquiries.

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is under way, a spokesman said.

The road, a busy route between Southport and Liverpool, remains partially closed as collision investigators examine the scene.

The closure is expected to cause disruption to motorists who are advised to avoid the area.
