Gideon Sunback, Zip Inventor, Google Doodle Of The Day

Gideon Sunback, Zip Inventor Google Doodle Of The Day

The clever new doodle features an animated zip that rips right through an embroidered version of the classic Google logo, to reveal the Google search page.

Google's official Doodlers seem to have no end to their inspiration. Today's interactive Google doodle honours a revolution in clothing that made clothes approximately one million times easier to pile on and remove.

Prior to zippers, jeans were all done up with button-up flies, dresses featured oodles of tiny, tedious buttons and modern tents were a fantasy.

Sunback added an indent and bump to each tooth so that they would lock together. Patent no. 1219881 for the "Separable Fastener" was issued to Sunback in 1917.

IBN reports that some Firefox users can't experience the full unzipping, as it unzips to reveal a blank white page. An easy fix is to switch to Google Chrome.
