Steps Reveal The Truth Behind Those Squeaky Clean Smiles

Steps: The Truth Behind Squeaky Clean Smiles

The first time around, reformed pop group Steps maintained a squeaky-clean image but it seems it was a myth - the group regularly enjoyed boozy sessions.

The band shot to fame in 1997 with novelty tune 5,6,7,8 but split acrimoniously in 2001 after members Claire Richards and Ian 'H' Watkins handed in their letters of resignation.

The fivesome have since put their tensions behind them and reunited last year to release a greatest hits album and put together a reunion arena tour.

And the group's members - Claire, H, Lisa Scott-Lee, Faye Tozer and Lee Latchford-Evans - are now willing to admit they weren't always on their best behaviour in their heyday.

Claire told The Sun: "I went on the Pepsi Chart Show drunk."

And H also drank so much during the 2001 British Soap Awards, he forgot the winner Tamzin Outhwaite's name when he went on stage to present her gong.

He said: "It was awful. It was because I got hammered in the Green Room with Amanda Holden."

But the band is now older and wiser and less likely to down drinks before heading on stage for their sold-out arena tour.

On their recent success, H said: "We've been given a second chance. Not many people get to stand at the top of a mountain twice."
