The Vicar of Dibley will find an earthly Jesus later this year, with Dawn French joining the panel to choose the lead for musical Jesus Christ Superstar.
Experienced musical performer Jason Donovan will also be on the panel, led by Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, of the reality show ahead of his revamped musical hitting the West End.
French appeared delighted with her new role:
"I'm gagging to find Jesus with the help of the Good Lord.
"I have actually been searching for him my whole life, and I can't believe that inside a few weeks we are going to find him. The fact that he is going to be a rock god is a massive bonus."
Although his original collaborator on Jesus Christ Superstar Sir Tim Rice was known to be less than thrilled about this method of choosing the lead, Lloyd Webber has form when it comes to making a good decision this way.
In his 2006 TV talent search, How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? he plucked unknown Connie Fisher from hundreds of wannabes and put her on the London stage in The Sound of Music. She got rave reviews and had her contract extended for the role, which she has recently returned to.
Stars already confirmed to appear on stage alongside the unknown lead of Jesus Christ Superstar include all-round genius Tim Minchin who plays Judas Iscariot, ex-Sporty Spice Mel C, and Radio 1 breakfast host Chris Moyles.
And Amanda Holden, relatively fresh from the West End herself after her role in Shrek The Musical, will be hosting the TV show, due on our screens this summer.
